Founded In 1951, the club has some 130+ members (2023) who enjoy coarse angling in three lakes:
The Red House Lake – the oldest club water, a lake dating from the 1880s, which lies behind the Gatehouse in Station Lane and stretches to the Tor Bryan estate. A member’s favourite, the whole of the lake and surroundings lie within the Station Lane Conservation Area. A mixed fishery with some larger Carp.
Lower Hall Lake – created in the early 1990s from cattle ponds in the old Orchard Close beyond Ingatestone Hall which existed in the early 1600s. A very special place on the edge of the Wid Valley with a history going back to the Tudor period. A mixed fishery with some nice Tench and Crucian Carp.
Green Street Lake – taken on by the club in the 1990s, the lake lies just off Green Street, Fryerning on the Parish boundary with Mountnessing, formed by the Hey Brook. A mixed fishery with some large Carp.
The club also has permission, going back to the 1970s, to fish along various banks of the River Wid at Buttsbury, downstream, between Wardropers Farm, Mountnessing, and the Stock Lane Water Treatment Works boundary at Buttsbury. Can produce some fantastic Chub and Roach.
The club has a seasonal series of matches, using all three lakes and other venues further afield, which in recent years has included lakes in Essex and away-day trips to the Thames (Runneymede and Staines) and the Norfolk Broads (River Yare).
Since the earliest days the Club has encouraged junior membership and has organised matches for juniors. In recent years, the club has built up a relationship with Essex Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs, based in Chelmsford, which has included matches and training sessions at Lower Hall and Red House. The organisation has member clubs across the whole of Essex, and in East and West London, whose members have benefited from the natural and peaceful environments at these lakes.
