An update from National Highways on the A12 Margaretting Bypass Reconstruction Scheme (between junctions 13 and 15):

“We’ll need to continue our preparation works (which will include the installation of CCTV cameras, temporary speed cameras, lane widening works and temporary surfacing works), ahead of the main scheme works starting early in the new year.

To ensure we complete all of our preparation works, we’ll be working 6 days a week from January 2023. Our daytime working hours (using single lane closures) will be 7.30am to 5.30pm, and our night-time works hours will be from 8.00pm to 6.00am. To minimise disturbance to the local community, we’ll be carrying out the louder activities during the day and less noisier activities during the evening. We’ll do our best to keep any disruption down to a minimum and apologise in advance for any disturbance that might be caused.

Please note – A 40mph speed limit will be in place as a safety precaution for road users during this time and until completion of the scheme, and the southbound and northbound carriageway will be reduced to two lanes.

Our preparation works will require a number of overnight road closures on the southbound and northbound carriageways between junctions 13 and 16 on the following dates:

• 5 January to 6 January 2023
– Full closure of the northbound carriageway each evening between 8pm and 6am.
• 7 January 2023
– Full closure of the exit slip road of junction 15 northbound between 8pm and 6am.
• 9 January to 13 January 2023
– Full closure of the northbound carriageway each evening between 8pm and 6am.
• 14 January 2023
– Full closure of the exit slip road of junction 15 northbound between 8pm and 6am.
• 16 January to 20 January 2023
– Full closure of the southbound carriageway each evening between 8pm and 6am.
• 21 January 2023
– Full closure of the northbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am.
• 23 January to 26 January 2023
– Full closure of the southbound carriageway each evening between 8pm and 6am.
• 27 January 2023
– Full closure of the northbound carriageway between 8pm and 6am.
• 28 January 2023
– Full closure of the exit slip road of junction 15 northbound between 8pm and 6am.

The road closures will take place overnight so that our team can do the work in the safest way possible. This will also allow us to keep the A12 Margaretting Bypass between junctions 13 and 16 open during the day. All dates are subject to change due to operational requirements and weather conditions.

During this time, traffic wishing to travel on the A12 between junctions 13 and 16 will follow a signed diversion route, as follows:
Southbound traffic will travel southbound along the A130, before travelling west along the A127, ahead of re-joining the A12 at junction 12.
Northbound traffic will travel eastbound along the A127, before travelling north along the A130, ahead of re-joining the A12 at junction 17.
A local diversion route will also be in place for residents who wish to access the A12 north or southbound during this time.
Please see the map at the end of this letter for more information on the diversion route.

We’ve sent a letter discussing the above to every home within a 500m of the scheme, so we can ensure that the local communities who will be impacted by our activity have been informed.
