Brentwood Borough Council has started its first new council housing developments for 25 years, at Magdalen Gardens and Fawters Close, to provide much needed homes for families and the elderly.
Whilst this building work continues, other sites which may provide similar opportunities for new homes, are to undergo a feasibility study with residents being asked for their input and views.
The sites being considered are council-owned garage sites within Hutton North and have the potential to be turned into much-needed affordable housing.
Community, Health and Housing Committee Deputy Chair councillor Cliff Poppy explained: “Letters have been sent to residents asking them to come and have a chat about the sites under consideration at two events we are holding.”
“The need for homes people can afford is growing all the time across the country and here in Brentwood we are determined to tackle the problem for all those needing somewhere to live across the generations.”
“These garage sites offer potentially a prime opportunity for us to reuse the areas and build for the future. That is why these events are important and we look forward to meeting residents and hearing their views.”
Five sites have been selected to move forward with the planning application process. Three of these sites have been allocated for new housing and two for the creation of extra parking in the area.
The first event is being held at Hutton Community Centre on Tuesday June 13 from 6pm-7.30pm with a weekend drop-in session on Saturday June 17 will be held at the proposed site from 10am-2pm.
The proposed plans and council officers will be on hand. Residents are invited to view the drawings and ask any questions they may have ahead of any planning application.
