Essex County Council is planning a ‘Try It For Free’ day as part of Sandon Park and Ride’s tenth anniversary celebrations.
Shoppers visiting Chelmsford’s city centre stores and families keen to eat out at its restaurants and cafés can use the dedicated bus service free of charge on Easter Saturday, 26 March.
The Sandon Park and Ride, adjacent to the A12/A414 junction, has more than 1,500 car parking spaces and is open from 7am, with buses leaving every 10 minutes.
Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport Delivery, Cllr Eddie Johnson, said: “The popularity of Chelmsford’s Park and Ride service has grown steadily over the years and has today become an important transport link for our city.
“I am sure those trying it out for the first time on our special free day will want to repeat the experience, especially for its ease of use and value for money.”
The Park and Ride is easing city centre congestion and lowering CO2 emissions by significantly reducing the number of vehicles travelling into urban areas. It has been accredited with Park Mark – The Safer Parking Award and an HM Government Energy Performance Certificate rating of A+.
Chelmer Valley Park and Ride, located on the A130 east of Essex Regiment Way, will also be free of charge on Easter Saturday.
