Don’t let your food waste haunt you – recycle it into energy!
18,000 tonnes of edible pumpkins are thrown away each year in the UK – that’s the same weight as 1,500 double decker buses.
So this Halloween, simply eat your pumpkins or recycle them with your food waste.
When you put your spooky scraps in the food caddy, the council empties the caddy and takes the food to an anaerobic digestion facility. Here, the food waste is broken down by microorganisms inside a tank.
As the food breaks down, biogas is produced and used to generate green energy.
Our scraps are powerful – one recycled pumpkin shell could power the average home for an hour!
