Churchyard Community Garden: First Anniversary. Celebrate with a chat and a cuppa with friends!
Last year saw a new community garden open in the closed churchyard of St Edmund and St Mary’s church – the opening was attended by IFPC councillors and staff, Deputy Mayor, church representatives, Brentwood Borough Council and Anglo European School, as well as RHS and AXIS representatives. It is now a safe and lovely place for sitting down and having a cup of coffee with friends, with a circular table with a bay for wheelchair and pushchair access, as well as a bench and two chairs with armrests. The place is perfect for teenagers, mothers with young children, people with dementia and anyone else to sit and have a rest or a chat. Everyone passing by is welcome to take a look and explore, or just have a sit and enjoy some sunshine.
The project came about when in 2022, the group was formed consisting of representatives of IFPC, Anglo European School, St. Edmund and St. Mary’s Church Ingatestone, RHS – Royal Horticultural Society and Southend’s Youth Offending Team to submit the bid supported by AXIS to the Brentwood Community Fund, for funds to promote local initiatives to improve the quality of life for local people living in the Borough.
